RedStateEclectic : Nebraskan Heat

I don’t know if you’ve heard about this, I doubt it, I’ve written a bit about it, RedStateEclectic and Objective Conservative are about the only coverage your going to find. Anyway, the Conservatives are mounting a challenge to Governor Heineman‘s control of the NEGOP, which appears to be going fairly well. The Laura referred to here is Laura Ebke, Chairman of the Nebraska GOP Liberty Caucus, which is more or less aligned with Ron Paul. Part of what’s going on here is that if Dr. Paul can capture the NE delegation to the national party convention (it seems he’s close) that will give him the fifth state he needs to be nominated in Tampa.
As most of you know, I don’t support Dr. Paul for President because of his foreign policy but, the NEGOP very much needs to be taken apart, it’s been the ruling party here for far too long, and has far too many people in it who are far more interested in their career and power than they are in Liberty.
From RedStateEclectic:
While waiting for Laura’s detailed account of the inner workings of Nebraskan politics, we can still get an idea of the friction within the Cornhusker State. The first paragraph from this news article sums it up well:
An explosive battle for control of Nebraska’s Republican Party is under way with supporters of Ron Paul, libertarians and tea party conservatives attempting to wrest leadership of the party away from Gov. Dave Heineman.
I dunno, I read words like “leadership” and can’t help but see it as a euphemism for power. The “leaders” seem cross because people are getting involved, using rules created during the days of special interest minorities. Now, liberty activists are showing up instead and it’s not the same rigid following once prized by the GOP. Sure, they said big tent but they didn’t think people would actually come down from the bleachers and throw hats into the ring.

This is another encouraging example of real people power. If all it takes for evil to prosper is for good men (and women) to do nothing, then presumably what it takes to defeat it is for good men and women to cooperate?
I think so, we’ll see. State convention is this weekend it should be interesting.
Good luck with that – be interesting to hear how it goes.
Thanks, It’ll be interesting. If the RLC folks can get enough delegate in NE, they will be able (maybe) to nominate Dr. Paul at the national convention, undoubtedly embarassing our Gov who is both the party chair and the 1st Gov to endorse Romney.
In truth, I’m glad I’m not a delegate, my loyalties would be going every which way.
I can imagine – not an easy one. Obviously shaking them up is a good thing, but Paul is not going to get the nomination and so backing him too much wouldn’t be useful.
Exactly. We have the same problems as Rebecca is describing in Oklahoma, maybe worse, so I am all for anything that messes up the establishment in Lincoln but, and it’s a big but, getting Paul anywhere near the presidency scares me.
Now if we had say, a home secretary that had nothing to do with foreign relations, he’d be a good candidate for that.
Reminds us all, I guess, that politics is a tough thing to navigate your way through – one of the reasons I admire Rebecca. I can see how easy it could be to lose your way, for the best of motives.
Yes, it would. And you know, I’d be sympathetic but, I don’t have it in me for those that are simply self-aggrandizing.
Agreed
