Getting to know you

I think we’ll lighten up a bit today, I was out most of yesterday, and didn’t get anything prepared, sometimes life gets in the way, doesn’t it? In any case, back in the forties, the average American GI, didn’t have much idea of what the Brits were like, and it seemed to the War Department (Yeah, when will we change the Department of Defense back to its proper name?) that they should prepare our guys a bit. They even got the Brits to help.

The Videos below were part of that effort. Enjoy.

And, of course,

A good effort, I think, by all hands. Still, 75 years later, we still get sideways every once in a while, but we usually manage to work it out with the cousins, and it’s one of the wonders of the world.

  1. Sadly the 1940’s so-called “Great Britain”, as the 1940’s America is gone today! Note, I was born in 1949, and raised an Irish Brit, but sadly again the 1950’s Britain is also gone, but I have great memories of that time and generation, and nothing can take that away, not even death & dying!

London and our coasts, certainly. The rest, I wouldn’t bet much on it. That old solid citizenry, in both countries, is still there, I think. I talk with them every day.

      • Yes, God still has His Remnant People, by grace & glory, but they are getting fewer and fewer in my opinion! But, “the world” is still the old fallen world, (I John 2: 15-17, etc.) And we can surely see 2 Thessalonians chapter 2 forming prophetically ever more before us, note especially verse 3, and that long and constant falling away and rebellion, which will end in THE “Antichrist”! (And yes, we have had many over the centuries) The End of this world will surely be centred around Modern and National Israel! One would have to have their eyes shut not to see this, but of course it is all spiritually seen!

*I am always something of that Judeo-Christian type “Watchmen”, (Isa. 62: 6-7). At least now I see that as something of my calling, though I be nothing! Jesus Is Lord!

Very interesting videos. I had seen all the Victory at Sea videos in the years of my youth on early morning TV back in the day, probably Sunday mornings. Never heard of these getting to know you ones.
Too bad they didn’t have one for Mooch before she went over to schmooze the Queen. Or could she have known better and just wanted to put the Queen in where she thought was her proper place?

“Victory at Sea” probably the greatest TV History ever. Have to see if they’re available. Even the music was great. These were for our troops going over, during or shortly after the war, doubt they were ever shown publicly. Hard to say about the last, at least without swearing! 🙂

And if O was asked about it he’d just say “That’s not who we are. I, I, I just read about it in the newspaper like you folks did. There’s no there there.” : )
