Budget Day

Yesterday, OMB Director Mulvaney had a press conference on the new budget. Pretty good one in my view. $0 for NPR, PBS, and NEA, 50% reduction for the UN, down 30% + for EPA, a lot for State as well, more for the Pentagon which needs it (it also needs much better and leaner management). Nothing about entitlements in this one, that comes later.

Here’s Mulvaney, he a joy to listen to, a man who knows his subject thoroughly, stays calm and answers the question. And the budget is a good start.

Aww…we can’t spend money on programs that don’t show results. Just because they sound good, we can’t do that anymore (14:30 mark). This guy read NEO? 🙂
Also I didn’t recognize any faces among the reporters (well, one guy). Neo-press people (don’t mean NEO people)?

Unlikely, but then, I’m not the only one saying such things, finally! Neither did I, but then I pretty much ignore the media. 🙂

Me too now. I used to follow some, some time ago that seems like yesterday. I’ll recognize Martin Agronsky when I see him. 🙂

Indeed, I’d nearly forgotten him. Wish we had some like that now! 🙂

Peggy Noonan doesn’t seem to think too highly of the budget or the way to get anything done.

Wow! Peggy, as usual, hasn’t left Manhattan. But that said, never in my life have a read a comment stream (what I read of it it’s <1270 now) like that in the WSJ, over at Ace’s, sure but the WSJ? I think the people are on a different page. Too bad, really, Peggy was a great speechwriter for Reagan, but the last decade or so, she’s lost the thread badly.

She wrote good speeches for Reagan, yes. But for his ideas of right, not necessarily her own. As Neptunus Lex said “the wheel continues to turn”, and we see more clearly who, what, and how people and things really are.
Maybe she can join Mika in “Our Job” club. 🙂

With Peggy, it seems more like the people she’s around. She has the occasional column that is nearly perfect, but most reflect the inmates of Manhattan more than any form of conservative. She should move, but she won’t; these fools are her friends, so she’s a lost voice.
