A Good Weekend

The Senate has voted to not call new witnesses. The incredibly weak, flawed, and partisan House plan will have to stand on its merits if it has any, which is doubtful. The Senate, being its normal lazy self has postponed that vote till next Wednesday. Mustn’t interfere with a long Super Bowl weekend, one presumes. Still, the right thing done late is better than the wrong thing. They say they have the votes to defeat it, just not today.

The British agree. Yesterday at 5 pm central time (11 pm British time) the United Kingdom left the European Union. An excellent result, also much delayed by self-important politicians.

A pretty low key celebration on Parliament Square, Full disclosure, I haven’t watched all four hours.

See! Good things do come to those who wait!

Just to be fair – Monday they have ‘business’ to conduct on the floor of the Senate (starting at 11 a.m., if anyone other than me is interested, lol) and they can’t be there on Tuesday because of security and all the special stuff they have to do in preparation for the State of the Union address Tuesday night. That’s why they had to put off til Wednesday.

A UK friend from a forum familiar to both us, IamGnarth, emailed me about 20 to 11, their time, to celebrate Brexit with me. I almost cried. I watched some of the festivities – was moved by the red, white, and blue lights running over the front of #10.

I’m looking forward to seeing the President re-elected this year and showing the world again what America can do.

Today we finished re-watching the HBO series, “From the Earth to the Moon”, and whatever your views about the politics of making the show, it reminded me what America can do. Something to think about. Make America Great Again should perhaps read now Making America Great Again, because the process is already started. Not as catchy – but on message?

That is pretty good. I commented the other day that Keep America Great doesn’t work for me because America is always a work in progress.

Gonna be an interesting election – will he do as well as Nixon in 72? That was 49 states, second only to Washington himself. It’s starting to look that way. That rally in New Jersey was an eye opener.

I think that you guys are a bit like us in that there are a lot of people who will quietly vote for Trump just as a lot quietly voted Conservative (AKA let’s get Brexit done) in December. We tend to be even more quiet than you guys because we have been worn down by political correctness, but still…as you say, I reckon a lot will come out for Trump now that he’s exposed the filth of the swamp for all and sundry. One can only hope that after this Presidential election the Dims will try going back to Jacksonian Democrat values – but I doubt it.

President Trump got elected in 2016 because no one – not media, not political experts, not anyone – saw us coming. I saw a poll (which are absolutely useless) during a break in the trial proceedings that “75% of voters approve of dismissal of the president”. What a crock! What they SHOULD have stated is 75% of voters POLLED had that response. They didn’t see us coming before and will have forgotten about us come November. But we’ll remind them with the numbers.

I didn’t see that one, but they are all push polls anymore. And usually loaded to lean Dim.

Actually, Trump is the closest to a Jacksonian Democrat in my lifetime. It’s rather invigorating.

I’m reminded a bit of that line in A Few Good Men, you know where Jack Nicholson says, “deep down, in a place you don’t like to talk about at parties” – that I think is the position a lot of Brits, myself included, are in at the moment.

    “A great weekend”
Yes, Oh Yes! As a great lover used to say to me.. alas, long, long, ago.
Now good week coming up too. Might be a flag on a play, but still way ahead. Winning here and “over there”.
And P.S. I haven’t watched pro-football in a few years now (and won’t this one, although I will check out who won). And probably somebody can tell me something bad about Andy Reid. Anyway I wish him a good week coming up. 🙂

      Yep. 🙂

I won’t bother with it either, pretty much over it, I always did like college ball more anyway. But yeah, I’ll check the score, maybe even watch some of the commercials. 🙂

Oh yeah, I have heard of some commercial to be shown by Mike Biltmore, motto…Spitting on Our Future…or something like that. 🙂
Even don’t watch college since Bobby Bowen left the scene. Funny that when I was a kid early, early morning TV on Sunday showed last nights Florida State game (New Orleans station). Can’t remember who was the coach back then, but was phenomenal passing game for those three yards and a cloud of dust times. Before Smokey was a Bandit as well . 🙂
Had to get up early to see, before Sunday School.

I still enjoy it, but don’t go far out of my way, great if I remember, OK if I don’t. Watching Bob Griese was really something though! 🙂
